Every threshold on WealthPercentile in one file: median, top 10%, top 5%, top 1% and top 0.1% for net worth and income per adult in 77 countries and the world, in local currency and US dollars. Updated 2026-10-10.
Key figures
- To be in the richest 1% of the world’s adults takes about USD 1,310,000 in net worth; the median adult has USD 10,800.
- The world’s top 1% hold about 41% of private wealth.
- In the United States the top 1% by net worth starts at about USD 5,420,000 per adult; the median is USD 93,600.
- In Norway (Statistics Norway, 2024) the top 1% starts at NOK 2,680,000 in pre-tax income and NOK 18,900,000 in net worth per adult.
Definitions
- Net worth: Net personal wealth per adult (20+): assets minus debts, couples split equally.
- Income: Pre-tax national income per adult (20+), a broad measure that includes capital income; higher than wages.
- Thresholds: median, top10 … top01 = the amount needed to be in that top group (top01 = top 0.1%).
- Quality score: 1 = strong direct national sources … 5 = mainly modelled.
